On Vacation 2023
Photos will be important - as in the last post, I am studying other artist’s work
First: Cycling
Second: Exploring
Third:. Learning by seeing anew
The first 6 days we explored The Isle of Wight. Very relaxing, nice gentle terrain on paths that avoided the main roads. Only once the pastoral was interrupted by having to cycle on a busy road, and the drivers were not friendly.
We survived. People who were not in cars were extremely nice. Where we stayed were beautiful thatched cottages with traditional stone work. Beaches all around but the water is cold! At our we enjoyed leisurely delicious breakfasts with good coffee. There were a couple of good places for lunch and dinner and we just kept returning to them. I felt veggies were sparse everywhere - is it the island cuisine or is anywhere in the UK outside of London?
The last 2 days were in London. All Electric Vehicles in the city center. Bike friendly and quiet. We walked, no bikes - still. We had a little basement hole-in-the-wall AirB&B. It was reasonable and worked out great as it wasn’t very hot, thankfully. We walked, ate at pubs, visited the Victoria & Albert Museum (Friday night music and lights); I saw one real Jamon Vase. A Peter Voulkas - not interesting to me except I have met people who studied with him. The Serpentine Galleries in Hyde Park was my fav but no photos allowed of Tomás Saraceno In Collaboration: Web(s) of Life.
Then…Camden Town, Primrose Hill, Indian Food, and a punk rock cover band. Next Day, the Tate Modern. One Alice Neel, One Christo, many of Joan Mitchell, many greats. Guerilla Girls! Francis Bacon: Three Studies for Portrait of Lucien Freud.
WOW, And that is only a few highlights… I’ll write more when I’m not sick with COVID. Hope you are all well!
